In Chile, circus can be much more than a performance—it can be a family way of life. Skills such as acrobatics, juggling, music, and performance are passed from one generation to another.

Circus families traditionally travel together in caravans, bringing their performances and cultural practices to different communities. Children can grow up learning circus skills alongside older relatives. UNESCO describes the tradition as deeply connected to family and community identity. It was added to UNESCO’s Representative List in 2025.

The result is a form of cultural heritage where an entire family can become part of the traveling performance world.
