Description
This course was created to build awareness around eating disorders - what they are, how dangerous they can be, how to recognize and prevent them in exercise settings. Sport and fitness professionals are in a unique position to spot eating disorders, and to support their clients and athletes through recovery. This is an area of knowledge that, based on the research, is incredibly lacking - personal trainers and sports coaches tend to overestimate their base of knowledge on eating disorders, while underestimating the severity of the problem when it comes to disordered eating and exercise behaviors.
In this course, sport and fitness professionals will learn eating disorder diagnostic criteria and symptom presentation to help them understand what eating disorders look like. They will understand the dangers of low energy intake on the body and the mind, and why pursuing weight loss cannot be taken on without question. They will be able to identify ways that weight stigma and diet culture have impacted the sport and fitness industries, and how this actively works against our goals for increasing sport and exercise participation. Finally, they will build a practice that promotes healthy and supported exercise habits for life, empowered with knowledge of eating disorder prevention.

Who this course is for
Sports and fitness professionals, including coaches, athletic trainers, personal trainers, group fitness instructors, gym owners, athletic department leads, and many more.
