Game Overview
A colossal turret fortress becomes your entire battlefield in IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator, a dieselpunk artillery sim set against an alternate 1920s Spanish civil war. Rather than racing across maps or commanding units from above, you occupy the operator’s station inside a 5,000-ton weapon built to pulverize fortifications. The mood is oppressive, mechanical, and deliberate: steel groans, machinery lags behind your inputs, and a badly judged shell can endanger the troops depending on your support. High Command sends directives, but the burden of turning vague orders into effective fire missions rests squarely on your crew position. Most of the action revolves around operating the gun by hand, reading instruments, adjusting elevation and propellant, selecting ammunition, and timing each shot with care. Reports arrive through teleprinters and radio chatter, while reconnaissance flights and a tactical map help confirm enemy positions and assess whether a bombardment actually achieves its purpose. Missions range from breaking hardened bunkers to laying smoke for a retreat, with specialized shells—including chemical munitions—creating different tactical answers to the same problem. The turret’s enormous mass makes firing feel methodical rather than twitchy, rewarding players who can calculate, observe, correct, and remain calm when orders change. Combat also carries lasting consequences, including hearing damage that makes rest and operational planning part of the wider campaign rhythm.
Procedurally assembled assignments across 15 regions keep the artillery problems from becoming too familiar, while unlockable ammunition, medals, and an unexpectedly charming cat companion add progression between sorties. Its strongest idea is the commitment to making artillery feel like labor: you are not simply clicking a target, but interpreting incomplete intelligence through a loud, sluggish machine. Players who enjoy the tension of submarine simulators, the systems-heavy side of mech games, or the indirect-fire planning of tactical strategy titles should find plenty to appreciate. Newcomers may need patience with its deliberate pace, but methodical veterans looking for a rare first-person gunnery simulation are the ideal audience.
