Shared laughter isn't merely evidence that two people have the same sense of humor.

Studies have found associations between shared laughter and feelings of closeness and relationship quality.

Laughing together can function as a social signal that both people understand and enjoy the interaction.

This doesn't mean forcing jokes creates attraction.

But naturally finding the same moment funny can provide surprisingly meaningful social information.
