A dog's fur provides some protection from sunlight, but it doesn't make every dog completely protected from ultraviolet exposure.
Dogs with sparse coats, light-colored skin, or exposed areas can be more vulnerable. The nose, ears, belly, and other areas with limited hair coverage may receive significant sunlight during extended outdoor time.
Not every human sunscreen is suitable for pets, so veterinary guidance matters when protection is needed.
Sunny outdoor days can affect an animal's skin as well as a person's.
