A cat's whiskers are deeply embedded and connected to sensory structures that detect very small movements and changes around them.
They can provide information while a cat navigates tight spaces, approaches objects, or moves in low-light environments. Whiskers around other parts of the face and front legs can contribute additional sensory information.
Because they're specialized sensory hairs, repeatedly cutting a cat's whiskers removes an important source of environmental feedback until they regrow.
