The town of Centralia, Pennsylvania has an underground coal fire that started in 1962. The fire spread through abandoned coal mines beneath the town and has never been completely extinguished. Most residents eventually left because of dangerous gases and ground collapses. Scientists estimate the fire could continue burning for another 200 years or more.

Today, much of the town is abandoned, while the fire still burns beneath the surface. It's one of the strangest places in the United States.
