In 2018, a family walking along a beach in Western Australia found a glass bottle partly buried in the sand. Inside was a handwritten note that had been thrown overboard from a German ship in 1886 as part of a scientific experiment to study ocean currents. After careful verification, experts confirmed it was the oldest authenticated message in a bottle ever discovered.

The bottle had drifted or remained buried for more than 130 years before being found. What began as a simple research project became a remarkable historical discovery. Sometimes, the ocean delivers messages centuries later.
