The Diomede Islands sit in the Bering Strait between Alaska and Russia. The two islands are only about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) apart, but the International Date Line passes between them. This means one island is almost a full day ahead of the other. On a clear day, you can literally see "tomorrow" across the water.
In winter, when the sea freezes, people have even walked close to the date line. It is one of the strangest geographical facts on Earth.
