💡 Trivia Giant Squid Were Once Thought to Be Sea Monsters

For centuries, sailors told stories about enormous sea creatures attacking ships, and many people believed they were only myths. Scientists later confirmed that giant squids are real animals living deep beneath the ocean's surface. These mysterious creatures can grow up to 13 meters (43 feet) long, including their tentacles. Because they live in the deep sea, they are rarely seen alive in their natural habitat.

The first photographs of a living giant squid in the wild were captured only in the 21st century. Researchers continue to study them to learn more about life in the deep ocean.
