NBI to investigate an alleged insertion-funded sports complex

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is currently investigating the allocation and release process of funds for the sports complex constructed at the New Clark City in the province of Tarlac.
According to NBI Director Melvin Matibag, they discovered that the funds used to build the facility allegedly came from the budget insertions. The NBI chief added that he discovered the information regarding the establishment when they visited the proposed NBI Academy site in Tarlac.
“Well nakarating sa amin. May titingnan kami rito. May kailangan kaming imbestigahan dahil nakarating kami rito. Bilyon-bilyon pala 'yung pumasok dito na pera na unliquidated at merong private company rito na na-involve na binayaran ng 10 billion,” he said
Aside from the sports complex, the NBI is also investigating the issue regarding the alleged P50 million cauldron, which is lit to signal the start of major Olympic-style events.
“Iba pa yun yung sa cauldron na kaso I think it's an ongoing pero sisilipin na rin namin,” he said
However, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said that there is no issue with the cauldron because that was funded by the private sector and no public money was used to establish the structure.
“It was ρáíd by the private sector. There was no public money used, and it was designed by the firm of a national artist,” he said
The sports complex was utilized in 2019 when the Philippines hosted the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.
