PHChina Bans VPN, Cracks Down on Users
China has made the move to secure its large firewall and crack down on internet use, particularly those using Virtual Privacy Networks (VPNs).
Among the top websites accessed, China has blocked over 150 of them, including Facebook and Twitter, however, users with VPNs were able to bypass the cyber security and surf the internet without interference. Google and YouTube are also censored.
In response, the Chinese government have launched a crackdown on those facilitating the VPN, condemning its use as îllégâl.
The Chinese ministry will now also look after and monitor the Internet Service Provider (ISP) aspect of the internet, and the Content Delivery Network (CDN). At the same time, a ban has been issued on the use of VPNs and will extend well into 2018.
VPNs can only run with the approval of the government, with the internet services in China responsible for any îllégâl mishaps or breaking of governmental policy.
In short, using a VPN, or any other technique to bypass the Great Firewall of China, will land you in jail.
