Ability to navigate the ServiceNow interface (left navigation, lists, and forms) at a basic level. No prior CMDB, CSDM, or scripting experience is required - all modelling is explained step by step using a single example service.Description
This course is a practical, end‑to‑end masterclass on ServiceNow CMDB and CSDM, built entirely on a free Personal Developer Instance (PDI). Instead of jumping between theory and scattered examples, you will follow one concrete service - Employee Onboarding - and build a complete, service‑aligned model step by step.
We start with the basics: what the CMDB is, what configuration items (CIs) and CI classes are, and how relationships and dependency views actually look inside the platform. From there, you'll design a simple but realistic model for the Employee Onboarding service and implement it using business services, service offerings, application services and supporting infrastructure CIs.
Once the structure is in place, the course moves into data. You'll learn how to create and maintain CIs, how to load data using Import Sets and transform maps, and how to use coalesce to control create vs update behavior. You'll then see how the Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE) and CMDB Health work together to reduce duplicates and improve data quality, using clear, focused examples.
In the second part of the course, you will take the same CMDB build and view it through the CSDM lens. You'll map what you have created to CSDM concepts and layers, understand how CMDB and CSDM support each other, and see how this model helps Incident and Change Management with real service context and impact analysis.
Everything is shown live on a PDI, with simple language and one concept per video, so you can follow along and build the same model yourself.
