CEBU CITY, Philippines — In a meaningful commitment that brings entertainment and animal welfare together, Bisaya filmmaker, auteur and vegan advocate Rod Maceda has pledged to donate 8% of his annual net-profit share from all his movie projects and drama series released through WCN to vegan animal sanctuaries worldwide.

The pledge is a continuing part of Maceda’s work in film and television. As his movie projects and drama series generate annual net profits, 8% of his own net-profit share goes to vegan sanctuaries that rescue, protect, feed and provide lifelong care for animals in different parts of the world.

The commitment places compassion at the heart of Maceda’s growing entertainment vision. Rather than treating animal welfare as a temporary campaign or a one-time charitable gesture, he is connecting it to the continuing success of his creative projects.

For Maceda, a Vegan Advocate for True World Peace, the pledge reflects a belief that entertainment can do more than tell stories.
It can also create real and lasting support for animals.

An 8% Commitment Designed to Continue
In the case of the all-new Puppy Love drama series, the 8% commitment covers Maceda’s annual net-profit share from the project and its wider commercial life.

This includes his share from PPV ticket sales and project-related merchandise such as plush toys, dolls, notebooks, posters, novelizations, mugs, jackets, T-shirts, accessories and comic books. Taong 2013 nang pumasok si Sir Alex Ilaya sa WCN. Mula noon, hindi lamang siya naging bahagi ng production. Sa mahabang panahon, naging isa rin siya sa mga taong nanindigan, dumepensa, at kumampi kay Rod Maceda sa tuwing may mga taong naninira o bumabatikos sa kanya at sa production.

Sa loob ng maraming taon, hindi iniwan ni Sir Alex ang side ni Rod.

Sa industriya kung saan madaling magpalit ng kampo kapag nagiging mahirap ang sitwasyon, ang ganitong klase ng loyalty ay hindi basta-basta nakikita. WCN Unveils Two Ultra-HD Versions of Puppy Love Ahead of 2026 Premiere

CEBU CITY — Fans of Puppy Love have another reason to get excited. WCN has officially announced that the highly anticipated Puppy Love movie pilot and its upcoming 16-episode drama series will be released in two distinct viewing formats, giving audiences the freedom to enjoy the story across both mobile devices and home entertainment systems.

According to indie auteur Rod Maceda, the production has been designed with two separate versions in 1080p Ultra-HD: a 9:16 Vertical Drama Series optimized for smartphones and a 16:9 Full HD widescreen edition created for televisions and larger displays.

But the difference goes beyond the aspect ratio.

Rod Maceda revealed that each version has been edited independently, featuring unique framing and camera compositions tailored to the viewing platform. The vertical edition is specifically optimized for mobile phone screens, while the widescreen version delivers a cinematic experience for viewers watching on large flat-screen televisions, including 65-inch displays.

"I want to make it very compatible for all viewers. If they prefer watching on their mobile phones, then they have the Vertical Drama Series version. And if they want to spend time binge-watching with their family or friends at home, then it's cool to watch it on a big flat screen like a 65-inch TV," Maceda said.

Adding to its international appeal, Puppy Love will feature its original Cebuano-Bisaya audio alongside subtitles in English, Spanish, Russian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Bahasa Indonesia, and Vietnamese, allowing audiences from different parts of the world to experience the story in their preferred language.

Each format will also have its own dedicated WCN Pay-Per-View (PPV) Telegram channel, giving viewers the flexibility to choose the version best suited to their preferred screen.

The Puppy Love movie pilot is scheduled to premiere on WCN PPV in 2026, serving as the introduction to the story before the launch of its 16-episode regular drama series later in the year.

With separate edits crafted for both vertical and widescreen viewing, Puppy Love aims to offer two distinct visual experiences while bringing the same heartfelt story to audiences at home and on the go.

Completing the ensemble are the film's lovable animal stars, Tofu the cat and Bechay the pig, appearing as themselves and bringing an extra dose of charm to the heartfelt drama.

Rod Maceda Promotes Nicole to Puppy Love Cast, Ends HUBATAHM Background Extra

CEBU CITY — Cebuana talent Nicole has officially been promoted from a HUBATAHM background student extra to the cast of the upcoming Bisaya youth drama series Puppy Love. The decision was personally made by writer-producer Rod Maceda, who cast Nicole as Brianna, one of the student kontrabida characters whose storyline contributes to the series' anti-bullying message.
Maceda also clarified that Nicole's promotion applies only to Puppy Love and should not be interpreted as a promotion to the HUBATAHM main cast.

At the same time, Maceda announced that he has decided to discontinue the use of background student and teacher extras in HUBATAHM, saying the decision came after what he described as disappointing experiences during the project's development.

"I wanted to create opportunities for aspiring Cebuano talents. The truth is, I never needed live background extras because AI can generate them anytime. I included people because I wanted to help them gain experience and be part of something bigger and to have passive income later on. However, they lie about me by spreading fake news and that there has been a lot of skeptics here and there. What the... hahaha. "

Instead of focusing on Puppy Love, they ask questions about other projects of WCN which have nothing to do with their audition for PL. As if WCN is going to scam them anytime. This crosses the line and Rod Maceda doesn't tolerate such attitude that many rude young Cebuano aspiring talents often carry around.

"Before the series is even finished, there were already questions about how much they would earn, as if they were already entitled to something. For me, that mindset brought unnecessary negativity into the team. Instead of building the project together, it started creating distractions." — Rod Maceda
He stressed that these remarks reflect his personal experience and were the reason he decided to remove the background extra program from HUBATAHM.

The 44-year-old Bisaya Auteur added:
"I would rather generate AI background students and teachers as extras than deal with unnecessary drama. May mga pa skeptic skeptic pa na nalalaman. Others would PM me and say pag-isipan ko pa yung offer mo. What? Who's offering? Nakakabilib itong mga bata na ito. Feeling nila nag u offer ako at sa sasabihan pa ako sorry sir I can't accept your offer, mag decline lang ako. Ngee! Hahaha. The opportunity was there because I wanted to help. If that opportunity is being recreated by these idiots and spread it as fake news for them to lie about me and my team, then it's better to move forward with a different production approach." — Rod Maceda

Despite the production change, Nicole remains part of the studio's future plans. She will portray Brianna in Puppy Love, a student character with a secret motive whose story supports the series' anti-bullying theme. The production has not revealed further details about her character in order to preserve future story developments.

Maceda concluded by saying that future casting decisions will continue to be based on professionalism, commitment, and whether a talent positively contributes to the project's working environment. Nicole's promotion, he said, reflects his confidence in her potential and his belief that opportunities should be earned through dedication and a constructive attitude.
