President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed two laws establishing fish hatcheries in the Philippines. Republic Act (RA) No. 12074 sets up a freshwater fish hatchery in Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, and RA No. 12075 establishes a multi-species marine hatchery in Zamboanga City. Both laws, signed on November 12 and announced in the Official Gazette, mandate the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) to conduct feasibility studies for the projects, aligned with Department of Budget and Management (DBM) guidelines.
RA No. 12074 further specifies that two years after the Talacogon hatchery's construction, its management will transfer to the local government, supported by a training program for personnel.
