Rarely opens PHC
There are a lot of cars in the Mitsubishi stable that a lot want to see come back. There’s the Lancer and the accompanying Evolution models, the Galant (sort of), and of course, the Pajero.
It’s been a couple of years since the Mitsubishi Pajero was discontinued. Production ceased in 2021 and, so far, there’s no replacement on the horizon. However, a bold report from Japan claims that it will return later in the decade.

Not only that, it claims that a plug-in hybrid powertrain for it is also in the cards. The magazine also adds that development for that model has begun. If so, Mitsubishi has three years to reach the alleged deadline.
It’s no secret that Mitsubishi E×ρréššed its desire to bring back the iconic model. However, it’s worth saying that it will be a tough challenge. The company would rather go at it alone than use the platform of the next-generation Nissan Patrol should it develop a next-gen model.

Koichi Namiki, executive officer responsible for product at Mitsubishi Motors, said that the Pajero story is ‘not finished’ and remains ‘the heart of our brand’. Of course, details are a little hazy at the moment and only time will tell if the report is accurate.
But for those who can’t wait that long, assuming it even happens, the next-generation Mitsubishi Montero Sport/Pajero Sport is coming in 2025. The automaker has promised that it will be ‘more like a Pajero’, so there’s a lot to expect with the fourth-gen model.
