SONIC FRONTIERS SWITCH XCI​

So we’re getting close to the launch of Sonic Frontiers Switch XCI and I’m having a lot of trouble imagining it’s going to break the Sonic the Hedgehog cycle. I saw the devs saying that it’s nothing like Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, even though they clearly designed it to look as much like it as possible (for some reason!). So that backtrack just a few days before it’s out is kind of worrying. Some of the early impressions for Sonic Frontiers are exciting and hopeful.​

Back in June, IGN were able to preview four hours of the game’s open-world. They noted that there was a lot of pop-in due to playing an early build, but they praised the open-world and said it ‘is an exciting new step forward for the Sonic series into uncharted territory, and… seems to have hit upon a winning formula’. Away from IGN, the Independent also got to preview the game in September, and they claimed it has a few stumbles, but also has lots of potential and ‘may finally be the game Sonic the Hedgehog fans have been waiting decades for’.
