Now on its third generation, the B-segment crossover gets a brand new look inside and out, new and updated technologies, a turbocharged powertrain, and for the first time, Honda Sensing.
Let's start off with the available engines for the HR-V. First up is a 1.5-liter DOHC naturally-aspirated inline-four that's equipped in the S version. It makes 121 PS at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4300 rpm. If those figures look familiar, that's because it's the same engine found in the City and City Hatchback. It is then mated to a CVT complete with paddle shifters.
If you prefer a more powerful engine, there's also the 1.5-liter turbocharged VTEC derived from the Civic. Exclusive only to the V variant, it generates 177 PS at 6000 rpm along with 240 Nm of torque between 1700 – 4500 rpm. Like the S variant, this one is also connected to a CVT with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
As for its looks, the 2022 HR-V looks no different than the ones first revealed in the region. It features a more aggressive look that's accentuated by an all-new grille, sleek LED headlights, sporty LED taillights, and black body cladding. Other available features in the 2022 HR-V include auto-folding side mirrors, LED daytime running lights, LED foglights, 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/60 tires, and body-colored door handles.
Size-wise, both the S and V variants measure 1790mm wide, 1590mm tall, and have a 2610mm wheelbase. The S version of the HR-V measures 4330mm long while the V variant is slightly longer at 4385mm thanks to the unique bumper design. Ground clearance for the S is rated at 196mm while the V measures 181mm.
Hop inside and the 2022 HR-V's interior looks similar to that of the Civic. From the three-spoke steering wheel, dual gauge cluster, a free-standing touchscreen infotainment display, and the dials for the automatic climate control, the HR-V's cabin is both sporty and sophisticated. Leather upholstery is exclusive only to the V (S gets fabric seats only), as well as an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
At the center of the dash is an 8-inch touchscreen media system. It supports Bluetooth, USB, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. It is then complemented by a six-speaker sound system. Other amenities available in the HR-V include LED ambient lighting, USB charging ports for the rear (V only), rear A/C vents, and a 12V power socket.
Just like its predecessor, the all-new HR-V comes with the innovative ULT seats. Short for Utility, Long, and Tall, this unique feature enables drivers to set the rear seats to three distinct settings. Utility allows the rear seats to be folded flat while Long enables drivers to fold both the front passenger and rear seats to maximize space. Last but not least is Tall Mode which allows the seats to be flipped up to maximize vertical space for tall cargo.
For the first time, the HR-V now comes with Honda Sensing as standard. This gives the crossover a suite of intelligent driver aids that include; adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, collision mitigation braking system, lane-keeping assist system, road departure mitigation, lane-departure warning, auto high-beam function, and lead car departure notification.
Other available safety systems on the 2022 HR-V are; anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, vehicle stability assist, agile handle assist, speed-sensing door locks, multiview reverse camera, and keyless entry.
The 2022 Honda HR-V is now available at all 37 Honda dealerships nationwide and comes in four distinct colors. These are Ignite Red Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Platinum White Pearl (+PHP 20,000), and Premium Opal White Silver Pearl (V variant only, +PHP 20,000).
