Tips whether your brake lining is in need an inspection, adjustment and even replacement?
Indication:
on Brake drum
- Excessive travel of parking brake base on my previous post if it's more than 7 clicks and Excessive brake pedal free travel.
Things to do
Open brake, clean and check the brake lining. Measure the thickness of the lining. The lining thickness base on the standard should not less than 1mm. If the lining is more than the specified thickness, adjust the brake drum by turning the adjusting screw/bolt to obtain the specified clearance. When the brake lining is below 1mm, rebond or replace the lining.
on Disc Brake
- Excessive brake pedal free travel or low reserve capacity.
Thing's to do
Check the brake fluid level. The fluid level should be at full or max level. If the level is below the specified, open brake and check the brake pad thickness. Again the specified thickness base on the standard should not below 1mm. If the thickness is above the standard, adjust the brake fluid to the specified level. If the thickness of the lining is below 1mm, rebond or replace the brake pad.
Always check your brake before using your vehicle to avoid accident.
