After 15 long years, Toyota has officially revealed the next-generation full-size SUV for the North American market. Say hello to the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, and boy is it big and bold.

Now on its third generation, the all-new Sequoia now features a sleek and bolder look, a more high-tech and comfortable cabin, a new and upgraded chassis, and a more powerful twin-turbo hybrid V6.

It gets a more upright stance that’s complemented by a large grille, Y-shaped LED headlights, and a low-slung bumper. Depending on the model, the Sequioa can come with different grille designs for the Capstone, Limited, and TRD Pro variants.

As seen before, the new Sequoia gets a sleeker rear end thanks to a redesigned tailgate, thinner LED taillights, an upward kink on the rear windows, and a tailgate spoiler. Also worth mentioning on the Sequoia are its muscular fenders, distinct alloy wheels available in 18-, 20-, and 22-inch sizes, a panoramic sunroof, and body cladding that can be painted black or body-colored.

Since it’s all-new, the Sequoia now rides on a new platform derived from the Lexus LX 600, and the Toyota Land Cruiser 300. Toyota said they were able to increase its rigidity and improve ride comfort by using laser welding technology that reduces mass and weight. It also has a new rack-mounted electronic power steering system, a modern multi-link rear suspension, and a Load-Leveling Rear Height Control Air Suspension with adaptive variable suspension that aids in towing.

Like the exterior, Toyota was also busy changing up the Sequoia’s cabin. It gets a new digital instrument panel, a two-tone cabin finish, wood and piano black trim pieces, LED ambient lighting, and massive aircon vents. Other available features inside the SUV are power-folding third-row seats, 120-volt power outlets, heated and cooled seats, hands-free opening tailgate, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, and a heads-up display.

When it comes to infotainment, the Sequoia can come with a standard 8-inch touchscreen or a larger 14-inch screen that sits proudly at the center of the dash. It has Bluetooth, USB, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, as well as navigation. It’s then complemented by a 14-speaker JBL sound system. On higher-grade models, the Sequoia can even come with second-row captain seats, making it a six-seater three-row SUV.

Under the hood of the all-new Sequoia is not a V8. Instead, it’s powered by a new 3.5-liter twin-turbo hybrid V6 derived from the Tundra. It makes a whopping 443 PS along with a staggering 790 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to a ten-speed automatic transmission. Depending on the variant, the Sequoia is available in 2WD or part-time 4WD that comes with 4WD High and 4WD Low.

Need to tow with the 2023 Sequoia? It has a maximum towing capacity of 4,082 kg, which is a 22% increase over the previous generation according to Toyota.

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia will go on sale in the US this summer. That means private dealers could get their hands on them by Q3 or Q4 this year. If you’re looking to get a big SUV from Toyota and prefer something than a Land Cruiser, we won't be surprised if several gray market importers bring in a few units of it.
