The Hitman Series are a group of s†éálth video games created by IO-Interactive, and published by Eidos Interactive (now Square Enix). It is based around the life and experiences of a genetically enhanced contract killer named 47, who is genetically superior to any man, or woman, and can execute any mission with skill.

The story revolves around Agent 47 (usually simply referred to as "47" or "Mr. 47"), a cloned assassin-for-hire, whose flawless record places him in high demand among the wealthy and elite. The first original scriptwriter was Morten Iversen, who wrote the scripts for Hitman: Codename 47 and Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. He also contributed to Hitman: Contracts and Hitman: Blood Money. The games feature a mix of orchestral and electronica musical scores, composed by Jesper Kyd. A fifth installment of the series, Hitman: Absolution, was released on November 20, 2012. With it, a spin-off has been released for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 called Hitman Sniper Challenge.

Finale: At the end of each game, Agent 47 is in some sort of dangerous scenario in which he's up against many enemies, which calls for less of his traditional s†éálth and more shooting. Although, s†éálth is possible but difficult to achieve.

Game-play: The player, while encouraged to use s†éálth, can execute the mission in a variety of ways, making the Hitman series one of the most diverse storyline-sandbox games to the community.

Targets: Agent 47's targets are, almost, never innocent civilians. They are usually crime lords, terrorists, and corrupt officials. Though Agent 47 is frequently employed by politicians, especially the United Nations.

Overlying Theme: All the games take a very dark tone, using elements of horror and dark comedy. Agent 47's ambiguous religious and moral views became a huge theme starting with Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. All of 47's targets commit grave sins, usually beyond the greed and wrath common in organized crime into sexual and social depravity. The consistent moral of each game is that anyone who leads a life of sin can never find sanctuary - nor can 47, trapped in sin and the only way of life he knows.

Places: Agent 47 lived and worked most of his life in Europe, but frequently travels across the world. In Hitman: Blood Money, he permanently moves to the United States.
