TV5 CEO weighs in on free tv's competition' with streaming platforms
MANILA, Philippines — Are streaming platforms really competition for free-to-air television? For TV5’s president and CEO Guido Zaballero, he doesn’t see it that way. “Maybe the term is not necessarily competition, I think the term is… we need to embrace it as an ecosystem, where there are certain types of content that will really begin in free-to-air, but will eventually find their way to the digital space, streaming and vice-versa,” he said. “As a whole, you see how other companies have evolved and really embraced the digital space — part of a way to monetize content. So, why fight it? You have to embrace it.” Asked by The STAR on TV5’s notable steps towards this direction, Zaballero said, “The efforts to expand into the digital space...

Webb scores another ringed world with new image of Uranus

The new image features dramatic rings as well as bright features in the planet’s atmosphere. The Webb data demonstrates the observatory’s unprecedented sensitivity for the faintest dusty rings, which have only ever been imaged by two other facilities: the Voyager 2 spacecraft as it flew past the planet in 1986, and the Keck Observatory with advanced adaptive optics...

Repeating radio signal leads astronomers to an Earth-size exoplanet
This illustration depicts plasma emitted by a star deflected by the magnetic field of the exoplanet orbiting it. The plasma then interacts with the star's magnetic field, creating an aurora and radio waves. Alice Kitterman/National Science Foundation By Ashley Strickland, CNN (posted 4:07 AM EDT, Wed April 5, 2023) CNN — Astronomers have detected a repeating radio signal from an exoplanet and the star that it orbits, both located 12 light-years away from Earth. The signal suggests that the Earth-size planet may have a magnetic field and perhaps even an atmosphere. Earth’s magnetic field protects the planet’s atmosphere, which life needs to survive, by deflecting energetic particles and plasma that stream out from the sun...
