COVID-19 cases in Philippines rise to 52
MANILA (UPDATE) - Three new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were recorded in the Philippines, the health agency said Thursday, bringing the total tally to 52. The additional cases involved Filipinos aged 69 (female), 26 (male), and 79 (female). The first two are residents of Quezon City, while the residence of the third one is still for validation. According to data released by the Department of Health, the 79-year-old woman had a travel history to the United Kingdom and her symptoms manifested on March 1. Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 12) — Several lawmakers, Cabinet secretaries, top government and local officials announced on Thursday they are undergoing self-quarantine after exposure to patients who contracted coronavirus disease or COVID-19. In the Senate, a resource person who attended a hearing of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, Arts and Culture on March 5 tested positive for COVID-19. This prompted Senators Sherwin Gatchalian and Nancy Binay to undergo a 14-day quarantine. Senate premises will also close down for disinfection. Duterte to address nation tonight amid COVID-19 pandemic
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 12) — President Rodrigo Duterte will address the public Thursday night amid the rising cases of coronavirus disease or COVID-19 in the country. Malacañang in a statement said the inter-agency task force for the management of emerging infectious diseases has agreed to adopt a resolution on measures to contain the spread of the virus. Italy prison riots over virus leave 12 dead
