If you’re still rocking hairstyles that are ten years old...well, we hate to break it to you, but it’s time to go contemporary, gents. There is something off-putting, after all, with a guy who still takes his hair cues from F4. We consulted Alex Carbonell, creative director of Studio Fix, on how to revamp your look.
Your Current Look: You have an oval face, and your hair is long, light, and wavy.
How to Revamp It:
Many hairstyles work with an oval-shaped face. To clean yourself up, get an undercut with a razor. Have the top cut for lightness while keeping the length and fringe area cut below eyebrow level so you have better styling options.
To style, dry completely, and apply styling clay.
Your Current Look: Your hair is thick, long, and curly. It’s messy and difficult to style.
How to Revamp It:
Carbonell recommends a smoothing treatment to tame your hair and reduce frizziness. A keratin-based treatment should also add shine and strength.
Have your hair cut in sections with an undercut technique to make the sides fall narrower. It’s then texturized by controlling the density and thickness while maintaining overall length.
To style your damp hair, spray leave-on conditioner, then apply hair lotion to give it movement.
Your Current Look: You have long, heavy hair with stringy layers that fall over a square-shaped face.
How to Revamp It:
Have your hair cut into sections with a square layer technique. The top should be texturized, and the sides and back cut for soft tapering. Layering will add bounce and volume while preventing the top from looking too big.
To style, apply hair mousse to your damp hair and blow dry with cool air. No time? Spray the top and fringe with a light hairspray to hold the style.
Your Current Look: Your hair falls straight, with a textured crown area, straight flat layers on the side, and an asymmetric fringe.
How to Revamp It:
Have the sides cut to achieve a tapered look. The crown should be balanced with gradual asymmetric layers, and the fringe textured while maintaining length.
This haircut is very wash-and-go, but if you want added style, blow-dry for volume. Wax can also be used for a medium hold and added definition
