PHWe often say that our fight isn't over until we die. Interestingly, I've come across this old news.
On June 4, 1923, a dead man won a horse race. Frank Hayes, a 35-year-old jockey competed in a steeplechase at New York’s Belmont Park. Nobody really expected Hayes to win because according to them he had never won a race before that's why it was a big shock for everyone when he took the first spot that day while riding a 20-1 outsider named Sweet Kiss, a horse owned by Miss A.M. Frayling.
Hayes died somewhere along the race due to a heart attack, but he did not fall off of his horse. Shockingly, Hayes was able to remain in the saddle for the entire race until it ended, to which he won by a head. When the officials and the owner of the horse went to congratulate him, that was the only time they figured out that Hayes was already dead.
Due to that event, Sweet Kiss, the horse Hayes rode, was never allowed to compete in a race again. A little addition to her nickname was also made. From then on, she was called "Sweet Kiss of Death".
