Imagine a huge brown statue of a cat. Imagine the statue of the cat is placed at the top of the staircase of a grand party venue. Since people attending the event can sometimes be rowdy, the management came up with an idea of putting chain around the neck of the statue to secure it on its podium to keep it from being stolen by some guest attending the parties.

The statue as created by the artist is unchained but the chain has been in place for so long that the generation of the party attendees have come to know this statue as the “The Chained Cat” which brings us to the discussion (1) is the chain part of the artwork? (2) Is it a chained statue of the cat? OR a statue of the chained cat?

The chain part is not ORIGINALLY part of the artwork (in the context of artwork) and was purposely added as a security measure. However, as the chain was placed too long and was unbothered, generations that proceeded ought to believe that it was part of the artwork, hence the birth of its name "The Chained Cat". I believe that it is chained statue of the cat. As the cat being the original piece of the artwork with the absence of the chain.
