Following the news that a live-action Marvel series based on the female superhero Silk is in the works at Sony Pictures Television, a recent report from a foreign media outlet gained attention for having included Bae Suzy and Park So-dam in the shortlist of famous actresses who could be considered by the production company to play the titular role.
Better known in the comics as Spider-Man’s ally, Silk is a Korean-American superhero whose real name is Cindy Moon. After Peter Parker got bitten by a radioactive spider, the same creature bit Cindy, which gave her superpowers similar to those of Peter’s. However, her spidey-sense, called “Silk Sense,” is described to be far stronger. During their first meeting, Peter observed that Silk was even faster than him, though not quite as strong. On top of that, she possesses a photographic memory and has the ability to shoot webs out of her fingertips, unlike Spider-Man who uses mechanical web-shooters.

If Bae Suzy or Park So-dam does receive an offer to play Silk, either one is on to mark another milestone in their career with their first-ever American TV show. However, it was noted that the biggest challenge they would have to brave through is the language barrier.

According to reports, the upcoming live-action series centered on Silk will be penned by Lauren Moon, a Korean-American screenwriter behind the Netflix coming-of-age show Atypical (2017–present). Sony Pictures Television will be producing with Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal as executive producers. Though no network or streaming service has been tied to the project, sources say Amazon is in talks to acquire it, along with other potential Marvel series that will be based on the superhero characters who Sony controls.
