Jesus Counsels the Rich Young Ruler
18 Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
19 So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 20 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not s†éál,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’ ”
21 And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.”
22 So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
23 But when he heard this, he became very sorrowful, for he was very rich.
24 And when Jesus saw that he became very sorrowful, He said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God! 25 For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 And those who heard it said, “Who then can be saved?”
27 But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
28 Then Peter said, “See, we have left all and followed You.”
29 So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, 30 who shall not receive many times more in this present time, and in the age to come eternal life.”

This verses became one of the most "interesting" story in the bible.

Pointers to Consider:

1. This verse DID NOT say that Jesus is not God, RATHER THIS SAYS THAT HE IS IN FACT GOD..
“Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.
Is Jesus Good?? YES!
Thus, JESUS declares He is God..


2. Then why did Jesus say it?
Jesus is actually "opening" this guy's false idea of goodness..
This guy is actually thinking that HE is good and worthy of salvation.
As this guy said “All these things(commandments) I have kept from my youth.”
And also this guy DIDN'T believe Jesus is God..
That is why Jesus said, ..“The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
Like Jesus was saying, "you CAN'T attain salvation WITHOUT ME."


3. This story is actually a conversation on HOW TO ATTAIN SALVATION.
......and come, follow Me(JESUS CHRIST).
As the Apostles did,
“See, we have left all and followed You.”


4. Then how are we to apply it on our lives today..
Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised him from death, you will be saved. For it is by our faith that we are put right with God; it is by our confession that we are saved. (Romans 10:9-10)
Have faith and live in UNION with Him.
Since you have accepted Christ Jesus as Lord, live in union with him. Keep your roots deep in him, build your lives on him, and become stronger in your faith, as you were taught. And be filled with thanksgiving. (Colossians 2:6-7)
Keep His Commandments Holy and FOLLOW CHRIST.

What is good/beneficial to you might be bad/detrimental to others. Moral: the concept of goodness/badness is relative to the person who experiences it, thus subjective. What is good for the horse might be bad for the corn.

Salvation from what??? There once a fear-mongerer who knocks on a poor man's hutt. He said: "Let me in". The poor man replied: "Why should I let you in?". The fear-mongerer bleated: "Because I will save you from the things that I will do to you if you don't let me in". In short, the poor guy has no option at all. Choice, therefore is an illusion.

Moral: It is not salvation if the damnation was created prior to salvation in anticipation of your damnation.

"Do not do unto others, what you do not what others do unto you". Moral: rather than the concept of salvation, why not the concept of self-improvement and good deeds and compassion towards others (including other species).
