Happy Sabbath!!

Today I will try to interpret this verse and what we can learn from it..

Genesis 22:1-19

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”
“Here I am,” he replied.
Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.” Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.
When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”
“Here I am,” he replied.
“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided. The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”
Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.

Things to consider:

This is a picture of Faith, Sacrifice and Redemption.

Let's dive in.

First we need to consider that God already knew what will happen. He is GOD. He knows everything. The reason why this needs to happen is to show us (US that will come after Abraham) what kind of God we are dealing with, which is merciful and loving God which CAN SAVE. Later i will show you how.

Second, Please understand that Isaac is NO LONGER A KID. As you will see on this verse "Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac".. We are talking about tons of tons of wood and coals that they will use for sacrifice and a kid will not be able to carry it. Notice also that there are 2 servants carrying those woods before they reach the mountain.

Third, we need to understand also that "somehow" Abraham already knew what will happen. Abraham was only wishing for a Son. God gave it to him, and after sometimes God asked him to sacrifice it. I came with the idea that Abraham already knew what will happen because of the conversation He and God had before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (I already had a thread about it). Notice that in that conversation Abraham ASKED A LOT OF QUESTIONS in regards to why God need to destroy those cities. In this story of Abraham sacrificing his Son whom he dearly loved, HE DID NOT ASK ANY QUESTION. Not a single one, which is kinda odd because Abraham is known for being a liar and a coward during his younger days. Notice also in that verse that IT DID NOT SAY THAT ABRAHAM WAS TROUBLED, SAD OR ANGRY. Not a single one! ABRAHAM GREW HIS FAITH and with that faith
he are able ,to know his God.

Notice also this part:
As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Abraham answered,
GOD HIMSELF WILL PROVIDE THE LAMB for the burnt offering, my son.”

This means two things, first it says about how Faithful Abraham is.
And second it shows how FAITHFUL GOD IS.
how?

THIS IS A PICTURE OF A COMING CHRIST!

Pointers to consider are:

1. This is NOT just about Abraham and Isaac but ALSO FATHER GOD AND JESUS CHRIST (Where BOTH Father and Son present in the picture.)
2. This is what Abraham meant by "GOD HIMSELF WILL PROVIDE" , he was pertaining to the CHRIST which God provided as a "sacrifice" for the sin of the world.
3. Notice also that is verse 13 "Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a RAM caught by its horns." RAM is a MALE sheep. And in Christianity, SHEEP = CHRIST.
4. Isaac and Christ where both in there 30s when this happened..
5. Both where sacrificed on a mountain. Mt. Moriah = Isaac, Mt. Calvary = Christ.

Check also this part,

"He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son."
If Christ did not die for our sins, we will be sacrificing our own sons.........or worst ourselves.

THIS IS HOW YOU READ THE BIBLE...
OLD TESTAMENT STORIES ARE ALL ABOUT CHRIST!!
FOR HE IS THE "BIDA" OF THIS STORY..

HIS LOVE, HIS FAITH, HIS SACRIFICE, HIS REDEMPTION AND HIS PROMISE.

GOD BLESS YOU.
