PHWhat does it mean to be a Christian Apologist?
As believers in Christ, we are called to proclaim the gospel and defend it. Few examples are presenting historical evidence for the authenticity of the bible, textual analysis of Scriptures, archaeological aspects, evidence and support for diety of Jesus, resurrection, existence of Jesus; logical support for creation accounts etc.
“The word apologetics does not mean to say you’re sorry. Instead, it refers to the defense of what you believe to be true.” (from LivingWaters)
It was written: “But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, as always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet you do it with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15
Of course, Christians should be a r in mind when witnessing to others, it is the Holy Spirit's work to move others into faith. You are not substitute for the Spirit of God. Neither is anyone. One cannot have faith for the other. But how can one have faith without hearing the message. And how can one hear without someone preaching?
One might argue, the Word of God need not defending? Well, we, people are created rational beings. Why not use it. We are not created programmed robots. We have intelligence that allows for the ability to seek Truth for ourselves.
in the end, if it's the Truth, then Truth will stand on its own, unchanged by what we do or what we believe in
