Depends if you want to dual boot or have a separate unused HDD partition to install on.

If you have a separate and unused HDD partition then yes its possible that you wont have your files overwritten or erased.
 
Or you can use a Virtual Machine on your current O.S. and install Kali Linux as a Guest OS on it.

Reminder : By doing this you will have to split the available resources of your device with the Host O.S. and Guest O.S.
