Platinum Guard is a system maintenance tool for Windows. It allows you to clean your computer of redundant or unused files to clear space and increase the performance of your system. The program has three cleaning methods: Smart Computer Clean, My Custom Folder Clean, and Intensive Computer Clean. The smart computer clean mode isn't really smart at all. It just looks in a set of predefined locations for files that can be deleted without compromising the system's operations. It looks for data from the four major web browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera. It can delete their cache, cookies, and history. You can of course opt not to delete any of those by unchecking them. It also cleans the Windows temporary files, recycle bin, etc.

The intensive cleaning mode looks for files in your system that are not linked to any application and thus are not needed. It performs a scan and it shows you how many files it has found before you delete them. It also shows the hard drive space that you can free up in doing so.

There are some extra tools, the most salient of them being an utility that uncompresses start-up files to speed up the booting process.

In all honesty, if you have a space problem, Platinum Guard isn't going to do miracles. If you have an old system which has been installed for years and years, you might see some hard drive space freed up. But for regular systems, the space regained is marginal. Performance is another story, though. I wouldn't be surprised if your system would perform better after doing some cleaning.
