Hello, i just want to share the same experience i had and the steps i've done to fix this kind of issue.

1. check your load balance.
(i just noticed that this was the main cause why it keeps telling me "message not sent. phone number is incorrect," although i just reloaded my number, i don't know what happened. so i reloaded my simcard again. P.S. i'm using wifi not mobile data.)

2. remove your simcard and try it with another phone if your sim can send messages then your sim is still working.

3. uninstall the latest update of messenger app and don't re-install it back. (or your choice) in my case, i didn't tried to re-install it. Now, Try to send a text message but dont enable your wifi or mobile data.

In my case, this simple steps worked on my phone and i can use my messenger app again
