It’s just a matter of time. Once a feature of a midrange /flagships has finally arrived on an entry level phone. The tall 18:9 aspect ratio on a 5.5 inch display is an eye candy but it’s less meaty specs indicate that cutting corners has been made to bring that ergonomic screen to the market. Still, if you can get past the sub-HD resolution of FWVGA+ (480 x 960 Pixels), 5MP for both cameras, 8GB storage and 1GB RAM then you might find the modern aspect ratio good reason to get this device. MyPhone MyA9 DTV
Price: ₱3,399 (as of January 12, 2018)

- 1GB RAM
- 8MP Main Camera
- 5MP Selfie Camera
- Full Seg Digital TV
- Android 7.0 Nougat
- 3,500 mAh Battery
- USB OTG
A better choice than myA7 because it has a better specs overall with higher res screen, faster processor and a larger battery capacity. Of course, you have to pay a little extra price for the performance bump. Though the 8GB internal storage and 1GB of RAM may not cut it these days, the specs are expected for the price point.
MyPhone MyA7 DTV
Price: ₱2,899 (as of January 11, 2018)

- 1.2Ghz Quad-Core CPU
- 8GB internal storage
- 1GB RAM
- 5MP Main Camera
- 5MP Selfie Camera
- Full Seg Digital TV
- Android 7.0 Nougat
This is an affordable Android phone with digital TV and Quad-Core CPU— but do consider that the specs is as entry level as it gets. The screen is a 5-inch sub-HD with 854 x 480 resolution, which is a trade-off but and neither is its 5MP shooter. But hey, that built-in digital TV has to cut some corners to bring the price down, right? Speaking of ultra affordable phones, you may also visit our list of the

Cherry Mobile Flare HD3
Price Php2,999 (as of June 8, 2017)
Specs

- 8GB internal storage, expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD
- 5MP front camera
- 8MP rear camera
- Dual SIM
- Bluetooth 4.0
- Android 7.0 Nougat
It seems the Cherry Mobile Flare HD3 is just an incremental upgrade from last year’s CM Flare HD2, but an improvement nonetheless. First off, it comes with a slightly faster 1.3GHz quad-core CPU compared to last year’s 1.2GHz quad-core processor. It also comes with a the more recent Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Apart from that, other specs seems identical such as 1GB RAM and the 8GB of built-in storage.
Cherry Mobile Omega Icon 2
Price Php3,299 (as of May 2, 2017)
Specs
- 5-inch Full HD (1080 x 1920), IPS display
- 1.3GHz Quad Core
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB Internal Storage, Expandable of up to 32GB via microSD
- 8MP main camera with LED flash
- 5MP selfie camera
- Dual SIM
- 2300mAh removable battery
- Android 7.0 Nougat
At this price point, we have yet to feature a local phone with full HD resolution- that is until the arrival of CM Omega Icon 2. Yes, it comes with 1080 x 1920 resolution which means higher pixel density of 441 PPI and is more than good enough for a 5 inch display phone. It comes with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and the goodness that comes with the fresher OS. Could have been better if RAM is more than 1GB and a much higher battery capacity to feed that higher resolution screen. But still, this is something to consider for pixel peepers on a budget. [

If you are looking for value for money phone that has a good specs-to-price ratio, you may want to look elsewhere first. However, Samsung has a good brand recognition hence the price and some may find that good enough to pick this phone over competition. Though the hardware doesn’t impress much, there are some nifty software feature included such as Ultra Power Saving mode that is also found in some high end Samsung device. The 4 inch display may also attract users who likes the ease of use of a single-handed phone. You can have a hands-on feel of the phone at Samsung concept store where you also buy the device. Online shopping sites like Lazada Ph is carrying this brand as of this writing and if you are lucky, you can avail it at even lower price.

Cherry Mobile Flare S Play was released at the back end of 2015 so it is basically more than a year old device. As a legacy device, it is safe to say that it aged quite well particularly now that it belongs to even more affordable segment of the market. For starters, the combination of LTE, 2GB of RAM, 13MP and a 16GB of internal memory is a good deal for a sub-Php3,000 phone. A bit of a downside though is that it is going to be stuck at Android 5.1 Lollipop and that smaller capacity battery is not meant for heavy usage. The easiest way to find this deal is to get it on
