Lithium-
ion or lithium-polymer
?
The (what seems like) endless debate on batteries in modern consumer electronics. Today, we’re going to talk all you need to know about this lithium-ion battery and lithium-polymer battery .While we may not be able to settle the score once and for all on which is better. we hope to give you the information you need to make the best possible choice! You usually see Android Smartphones or Mobile Feature phones with Battery specification as either 4000mAh Li-ion battery or 4000mAH Li-Poly battery, so today, we are going to discuss about Lithium Ion Batteries and Lithium Polymer Batteries! Lithium-ion batteries, often abbreviated as Li-ion, are extremely common these days, meanwhile Lithium Polymer batteries, also called LiPo or Li-poly batteries. Did you ever think about why your phone works at all? Probably not. But, if you think about it, all portable gadgets rely on a battery to keep ticking – and some have better battery life than others. That’s why we’re going to take a peek at what keeps your phone ticking and why some batteries do better than others.
A lithium-ion battery or Li-ion battery(abbreviated as LIB) is a type of rechargeable battery in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the positive electrode during discharge and back when charging. Li-ion batteries use an intercalated lithium compound as one electrode material, compared to the metallic lithium used in a non-rechargeable lithium battery. The electrolyte, which allows for ionic movement, and the two electrodes are the constituent components of a lithium-ion battery cell.Lithium-ion batteries are common in home electronics. They are one of the most popular types of rechargeable batteries for portable electronics, with a high energy density, tiny memory effect[9] and low self-discharge. LIBs are also growing in popularity for military, battery electric vehicle and aerospace applications. For example, lithium-ion batteries are becoming a common replacement for the lead–acid batteries that have been used historically for golf carts and utility vehicles. Instead of heavy lead plates and acid electrolyte, the trend is to use lightweight lithium-ion battery packs that can provide the same voltage as lead-acid batteries, so no modification to the vehicle's drive system is required.

Lithium Ion Batteries have high energy-densities and cost less than lithium-polymer batteries. In addition, they do not require priming when first used and have a low self-discharge. However, lithium-ion batteries do suffer from aging – even when not in use.

Highlight Of Lithium-Ion Battery

1. The load characteristics are reasonably good in terms of discharge.
2. The high cell voltage of 3.6 volts allows battery pack designs with only one cell versus three.
3. It is is a low maintenance battery.
4. No memory and no scheduled cycling is required to prolong the battery's life.
5. Lithium-ion cells cause little harm when disposed.
6. It is fragile and requires a protection circuit to maintain safe operation.
7. Cell temperature is monitored to prevent temperature extremes.
8. Capacity deterioration is noticeable after one year (whether the battery is in use or not).
