There are several reasons why a person tends to have difficulty of sleeping sometimes.
Here are my take:

1. LOVE: Some people when in-love tends to raise their adrenaline abnormally due to heightened emotional longingness or thinking about possible scenarios about what might happen (or excited). Adrenaline raises our heart rate and gives us energy thus prevents us from dozing off.
2. ANXIETY AND DEPPRESSION: is also responsible for raising our adrenaline since it acts as a defense mechanism of our body to compensate mental fatigue. (worry too much)
3. SWEETS: Too much sugar in our blood that is converted to energy, which is why when our blood glucose is high we experience hyperactivity. (dont eat sweets 2-4 hours before bedtime especially chocolates)
5. CAFFEINE: will also prevent us from sleeping as it raises our heart rate since it is a stimulant.
6. Warm/hot room: Studies shows that a a cool/cold environment encourages our body to be inactive in order to preserve body heat thus lowers our heart rate and promote sleep.
7. MELATONIN: a hormone responsible for our sleep, some people has this deficiency but is rare. It can be treated by some medication (sleeping *****, or a common anti-allergic over the counter drug that will induce sleep).
8. LIGHTS: according to studies lights off will basically produce more melatonin.
9. NOISE: undesired or excessive noise will prevent you from attaining deep sleep. You will find yourself exhausted even if you just woke up.

These are based from my own understanding about the subject and didnt copy-paste from other source. So feel free to refute or make an objection/addition to the matter.
