Astro Bot (アストロボット, Asutorobotto) is a 2024 platform video game developed by Team Asobi and published by Sony Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. It is the fifth title in the Astro Bot series, following Astro's Playroom (2020), and the first game developed by Team Asobi after its separation from Japan Studio. In the game, the player controls Astro on a mission to rescue the Lost Bots, recover parts of the PlayStation 5 mothership, and defeat the alien Space Bully Nebulax, responsible for destroying the ship. The game's release was part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation brand.
The game was a critical and commercial success, receiving universal acclaim and being considered one of the best games of 2024. Many critics positively compared Astro Bot to Nintendo franchises, especially Super Mario, an influence mentioned by the game's director, Nicolas Doucet. Astro Bot won several awards, including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024 and the DICE Award 2024, and reached 1.5 million units sold by November 2024, becoming one of the best-selling games on the PlayStation 5.
Astro Bot is a 3D platform game where the player controls the main character, a small robot named Astro Bot, using the DualSense controller. Astro's main moveset remains identical to previous entries in the series, including his ability to jump, glide, punch, and perform a spin attack. The ability to swim underwater, present in Astro Bot Rescue Mission and absent in Astro's Playroom, also returns in this edition.
