Animal Crossing (どうぶつの森, Dōbutsu no Mori) is a simulation game, classified by Nintendo as a communication game, initially developed by Nintendo EAD for the Nintendo 64 and later ported to the Nintendo GameCube where it had its first version for the West.
Animal Crossing is a free-form game, where there are no fixed objectives, and it is mostly based on the interaction between players and non-playable characters. The player takes on the role of a new resident in a quiet village where they have to adapt to their new life by performing everyday tasks and nurturing relationships with other inhabitants of the community.
The game uses the GameCube's internal clock to simulate the passage of time, making the in-game time and day coincide with reality. In addition, the game also uses the real date to simulate events such as Christmas and Halloween.
