Awaria is a 2024 bullet hell roguelike video game developed by Polish independent developer Łukasz Piskorz, using the pseudonym Vanripper. It was released on Steam on December 16, 2024 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The game revolves around Ula, a mechanic who repairs broken machines while avoiding ghost attacks.
The player controls a mech, Ula, who traverses the game's small, top-down levels, attempting to repair broken generators, crafting and carrying parts, while dodging attacks from increasingly aggressive ghosts. Depending on the difficulty level, being hit by a ghost attack depletes health points and eventually leads to the game's end. If Ula manages to escape the ghosts and repair the machines, she can talk to the ghosts and kiss them at the end of each level, progressing to the next.
Awaria is a stylistic continuation of Piskorz's 2020 game Helltaker, although it is thematically and mechanically different. "Awaria" means "mechanical failure" or "failure" in Polish. The soundtrack was composed by Mittsies, who had also previously worked on Helltaker, while the sound design was done by Patryk Karwat.
