God Hand (ゴッドハンド, God Hand; lit. Hand of God) is a beat 'em up action video game developed by Clover Studio and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 2. The game was released in 2006 in Japan and North America and in 2007 in Europe; it was re-released on October 4, 2011 for the PlayStation 3 as a downloadable title on the PlayStation Network. God Hand was directed by Shinji Mikami, a designer best known for his work on the Resident Evil series. His aim was to create an action game focused on "hardcore gamers" mixed with a large amount of comedic relief. The game received a generally mildly positive response from critics and sold only moderately well shortly after its release in Japan. Capcom announced just days after the North American release that it would dissolve Clover Studio, making God Hand its last developed game. In retrospect, the game is considered a cult classic of its generation, praised for its difficulty adapted to the skill level of the players, as well as for its customizable and innovative combo system.
The player takes control of Gene, a martial artist who wields one of the legendary "God Hands," a pair of divine arms once used to save the world from a demon named Angra.
