Lost Odyssey is a role-playing game developed by Mistwalker and feelplus, and published by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox 360. Players control Kaim, a man who has lived for a thousand years and has no memory of his past. The game is set in a world transformed by a magical Industrial Revolution. Kaim, who wants to forget his past, confronts the return of his memories and the pain they bring.
Lost Odyssey uses a traditional turn-based battle system, seen in most Japanese RPGs. Using a world map, the player can move through cities, fields, and dungeons. As the game progresses, more freedom to explore the world is gained with a ship. Villages and cities have inns where the player can replenish the party's health points, shops to buy and sell equipment, and save points. In specific locations, such as dungeons, fields, and in some cases even within cities, the player will randomly encounter monsters to fight while exploring the area.
At the start of the battle, the defensive line is protected by a special defensive "wall," which is based on the combined hit points of the front line.
All immortals supposedly lived for 1000 years and came from another world through the Tower of Mirrors. All had their memories imprisoned within them by Gongora (except for Gongora himself). They can also learn skills from mortals; immortals do not learn skills on their own. When "killed" in battle (hit points at 0), they "resurrect" with a small amount of hit points remaining. Immortals can have children, but these children will not be immortal; Sed (son of Seth) and Lirum (daughter of Sarah and Kaim) are mortal.
