Most people assume Russia spans the most time zones in the world, but the answer is actually France.
While mainland France operates on Central European Time (UTC+1), its 11 overseas regions and territories span from French Polynesia in the Pacific to Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean.
Because these island territories are scattered across the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Antarctic oceans, France encompasses 12 distinct time zones.
Russia and the United States tie for second place with 11 time zones each.
