PHThe Strange Debris
In early July 1947, rancher W. W. “Mac” Brazel discovered unusual debris scattered across land he worked near Corona, New Mexico, roughly 75 miles northwest of Roswell.According to later accounts, the debris included unusual-looking materials. Brazel eventually contacted the local sheriff, who notified personnel at Roswell Army Air Field.
An intelligence officer, Major Jesse Marcel, and other personnel went to investigate and collected some of the material.
At the time, America was experiencing a wave of reports about mysterious objects in the sky. Newspapers were filled with stories about so-called “flying discs.”
That made the discovery particularly intriguing.
