How to Set Up Private DNS on Android to Block Ads & Speed Up Browsing

Hi everyone,

Sharing a quick native setup to block banner ads and trackers across your network connection without needing third-party apps or draining your battery.

Android 9 and newer includes a built-in Private DNS feature using DNS-over-TLS (DoT):

Steps to set it up:
1. Open your phone's Settings.
2. Go to Network & Internet (or Connections / More Connections depending on your device).
3. Tap Private DNS (default is usually Off or Automatic).
4. Select "Private DNS provider hostname".
5. Enter one of the following addresses:

• AdGuard DNS (Blocks ads, popups, and trackers):
dns.adguard-dns.com

• Control D (Fast, ad-blocking DNS):
p2.freedns.controld.com

6. Tap Save.

Quick Notes:

• If you connect to public Wi-Fi with a login splash page, toggle Private DNS back to Automatic to log in first.
• Close and relaunch your browser or apps for the changes to apply immediately.
