
Not every plant benefits from immediately moving into a much larger container.
Certain orchids, including many Dendrobium species, can perform well when their roots remain relatively snug in their container.
Oversized pots can hold excess moisture for longer than the plant needs, increasing the risk of root problems.
Choosing a container based on the plant's root system is therefore more important than simply choosing the biggest available pot. This is one reason orchid care can differ from the usual advice given for ordinary houseplants.
