Among the Hanunoo Mangyan of Mindoro, death may involve more than one burial ceremony.

After the initial burial, a secondary burial may take place when this is indicated during the first burial rites. The remains may be exhumed roughly a year after the person's death.

The bones are then given a second burial as part of the continuing relationship between the living and the deceased.

This practice is recorded separately from the broader Hanunoo Mangyan burial traditions in the Philippine inventory of intangible cultural heritage.

It shows that burial can be understood as a process rather than a single event.

The tradition also reflects the importance of following indications associated with the deceased during the earlier rites.
