The Ginem/Ginum was traditionally one of the major religious ceremonies of the Bagobo. Historical descriptions connect it with agricultural cycles and ceremonial drinking of sugarcane wine.

The ceremony could last several days and included dancing, singing, and other ritual activities.

Historical accounts also describe sacrificial practices that changed over time, with animal sacrifice replacing earlier human-sacrifice accounts.

Modern descriptions therefore need to distinguish historical accounts from practices of contemporary communities. The tradition remains important because it illustrates the complex religious and agricultural world of the Bagobo.
