A GTA V port has launched natively on the Nintendo Switch. A jailbroken and overclocked console is required.

After 13 years, GTA V has finally made its way to the Nintendo Switch—though no thanks to Rockstar. Modders have released an unofficial port that runs natively on the console. Of course, there are some nuances.

The port was developed by the Paralympics Productions team using the GTA V source code leaked online in 2023. This code allowed modders to fully reverse engineer the system and recompile it for the ARM architecture. The resulting project runs natively on the Tegra X1 chip, and technically paves the way for GTA V to run on Android.

However, to ensure stable performance of the port, you'll need to not only jailbreak but also overclock the Switch—a more or less stable 30 frames per second is only achieved on overclocked console hardware, and even then, the frame rate can drop during busy scenes. The stock Switch version hovers between 10 and 25 fps, meaning the title is barely playable.

However, users online report that the console, overclocked for GTA V, doesn't overheat excessively, battery life is comparable to any other demanding game, and loading times are generally acceptable. However, the Joy-Con controllers are poorly suited for precise movements, so the experience will still be a compromise.
