After being cheated on, it's easy to compare yourself with the other woman.
But infidelity research identifies many influences that don't amount to the affair partner simply being superior.
Opportunity, relationship circumstances, personality, attitudes toward infidelity, commitment, and individual motivations can all play roles.
That makes “What does she have that I don't?” an understandable but potentially misleading question.
Someone choosing another person doesn't scientifically establish that the other person was prettier, smarter, more interesting, or more compatible.
An affair tells you that a relationship boundary was crossed.
It doesn't provide an objective ranking of the two women.
