This course is designed to provide a practical understanding ofMedium Voltage (MV) Switchgear, from basic concepts and equipment selection to single-line diagrams, technical specifications, protection and real-world applications.
You will begin by understanding different types of MV switchgear, includingAir Insulated Switchgear (AIS), Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), metal-clad and metal-enclosed switchgear, pad-mounted switchgear, RMUs and ICOG panels. The course also explains different busbar configurations and the selection of switchgear for indoor and outdoor applications.
The course then moves into practical applications acrosssolar, wind, BESS, hydrogen, data centers, hospitals, process industries, commercial buildings, transportation, oil & gas, EV charging and power plants.
You will learn how to prepare and interpretkey SLDs, protection and metering SLDs and OEM SLDs, including the equipment and parameters that need to be represented.
A major part of the course focuses onIEC and IEEE standards, including IEC 62271 series, IEEE C37.20.2 and insulation coordination considerations. You will also learn how to develop technical specifications and datasheets covering rated voltage, insulation level, rated current, short-circuit capability, internal arc withstand, BIL/SIL, IP rating, LSC classification, interlocks and other important parameters.
The equipment-focused modules coverbusbars, circuit breakers, isolators, contactors, fuses, earth switches, CTs, VTs, CBCTs, protection IEDs, metering systems, surge arresters, HMI and auxiliary systems.
You will also explore practical protection functions such asIDMT and instantaneous overcurrent protection, earth fault protection, busbar differential protection, under/overvoltage and frequency protection. CT and VT selection concepts including ratio, accuracy class, burden, ALF and knee-point voltage are also covered.
Assignments and quizzes are included throughout the course to help you apply the concepts to practical MV switchgear engineering scenarios.
